Just like with any technology, it’s important to take proper care of your hearing aids. This will make sure you get the best performance and hear the sounds of your daily life. While you can clean your hearing aids at home, it’s important to get them checked by an audiologist at least several times a year.
What Happens During a Clean and Check Appointment?
A clean and check appointment consists of a variety of tests to make sure your hearing aids are in the best shape. Your provider will test your hearing aids’:
- Receiver
- Microphone
- Controls
- Battery compartment
If issues are found, your audiologist will fix them in-house if possible. For larger repairs, your devices may need to be sent to the manufacturer.
Our team will also remove earwax from your device’s microphone and receiver openings, wipe your devices down and replace the wax guards if they are clogged.
How Often Should I Schedule Clean and Check Appointments?
We recommend taking your hearing aids in every six months.
How Should I Care for My Hearing Aids At Home?
In between clean and check appointments, you should clean your devices daily, wash your hands before handling them, update the wax guards as necessary and store them in their case when not in use.
